Record the exact boundary
Was the file never queued, still transferring, rejected, visible only as a preview or unavailable when downloaded? These observations suggest different next checks. Record a safe description and the relevant app/platform privately. Do not expose filenames containing personal information when asking for help in public.
Check scope and resources
Confirm that the expected source is connected, the destination is correct and there is adequate account and device working space. Some upload methods have platform limitations. Consult the current documentation for the method actually used rather than following instructions for another app. Avoid clearing caches or deleting source files as speculative fixes.
Resume a known batch
Use your accepted-batch record to distinguish completed work from the unresolved portion. Inspect existing equal names before another import because overwrite behavior matters. A second broad upload can create confusion even if the service handles some duplicates. Preserve the source and seek account-specific assistance when the observed error cannot be safely explained.
A fictional interrupted disk upload
A removable disk disconnected during a batch. Reconnect it safely, identify which items were accepted and check the remainder using the provider’s supported route. Do not format the disk or erase the destination in order to start clean. Mark the batch accepted only after the intended scope and representative retrieval checks are satisfied; uncertain items remain visible exceptions.
Protect the evidence of failure
Keep the source intact and record the affected batch, method and observed result. Where a message contains personal filenames, keep it private and redact before seeking public help. Do not repeatedly alter several settings at once; that makes it difficult to know which change mattered. Resolve the smallest understood issue, then verify the intended file independently before accepting the batch as complete.
