Hold the task constant
Use the same sample and questions for both products: where originals live, how a selected image is downloaded, what a helper can do and how a mistaken change is recovered. Otherwise a gallery demonstration on one side and an encrypted-folder demonstration on the other produces an attractive but unfair comparison. A discount alone does not establish the better reader choice.
Different documented emphasis
pCloud describes a gallery, timeline and photo editing alongside file storage. Icedrive emphasizes client-side encryption on premium plans, including encrypted names. The relevant trade-off is whether the particular protected storage area also supports the household browsing and sharing tasks you need. Do not assume every feature works identically inside encrypted and ordinary folders.
Use a requirement table
List original download, offline access, relative viewing, helper editing, recovery window and an exit copy as separate rows. Mark each as documented, checked with your own harmless sample, or unknown. Add the actual plan and platform beside the result. Leave an unknown cell blank rather than awarding a feature because a homepage says secure or simple.
When neither is the next purchase
If the current problem is scattered filenames or unidentified duplicate sources, a storage subscription will not make those decisions for you. Inventory and protect the existing files first. If both services satisfy the real workflow, compare total commitment and maintenance effort. If either fails a mandatory recovery or sharing step, that failure matters more than unused capacity.
