Paying once against a Dropbox subscription

pCloud's Lifetime plan is one payment that lasts for the account owner's lifetime or 99 years, whichever is shorter, per pCloud's terms. Lifetime 2 TB is $499. Dropbox's plans page lists no one-time plan, and pCloud's own monthly and yearly plans renew automatically until you end them. pCloud pricing shows every pCloud plan on each basis.

A Lifetime account cannot pass to another person, pCloud's terms let it change or discontinue the service, and the refund window is the same 14 days as on any paid plan.

Sending files and restoring deleted ones

For big transfers Dropbox Plus allows more: its plans page lists transfers up to 50 GB. pCloud Transfer, a separate send-a-file service, sends up to 5 GB by email or link, and the recipient needs no pCloud account. A pCloud shared link is the other route: anyone can open it without an account, and Premium Plus allows 4 TB of link traffic a month, the allowance for how much other people can view or download through your links.

Both keep deleted files for 30 days. pCloud's Trash, where deleted files wait before permanent deletion, holds them 30 days on paid plans, and its paid Extended File History add-on stretches that to 365 days. Dropbox says permanently deleted files cannot be restored from version history; treat permanent deletion on pCloud as final too. pCloud lists password-protected links on its Premium plans; Dropbox lists password-protected files on its Standard card, and its Plus card does not list them.

Free plans, trials and refunds at pCloud and Dropbox

Both have a free plan: Dropbox Basic is 2 GB, and pCloud Basic starts at 2 GB and reaches up to 10 GB through its tutorial and invitations. Dropbox shows no trial on Plus, while pCloud's terms allow a written refund request within 14 days of payment, which pCloud can decline on a promotional purchase.

Pick pCloud for 2 TB on a one-time payment, or on yearly billing at $99.99 a year. Pick Dropbox Plus for transfers of up to 50 GB on one subscription billed yearly. Dropbox alternatives and best cloud storage set other services beside both.
